The Canon Rebel is out of the bag and back to work performing CN. The goal this time is to find a better way to filter only the Sun. This is done with a piece of solar film 10mm wide and custom cut to cover the central objective lens on a prime 50mm Pentax f2.0. The design that seemed to work the best has a circular polarizer, solar film, adapter, and UV filter all sandwiched together (see linked images).
Camera settings: ISO 400, f 8, 1/750s, infinite focus.
The only draw back so far seems to be an under exposed Sun vs. an over exposed horizon. Function was good with intercepts better than 2 NM.
For precise work the pair of circular polarizers held out in front of the lens is still the best although clumsy. The solar film combo is much faster at getting the shot. More testing to follow.
