    Stephen - you wrote

' I’d be interested in seeing anyone’s comments on it in use in comparison to the 1970s Zeiss Freiberger 7/8 size Yacht Sextant.'

I would be put off by any arrangement which requires storing the sextant in its case 'optics down' - it means that when storing, any mishits result in a knock on one or more optical components.

Because the Freiberger has an open frame, as has the Astra, it can be gripped by the frame, and it can be stored 'optics up'.

The Astra and the Freiberger Yacht can therefore be read when parked in the case with the lid up, a great convenience on a boat where there's limited  horizontal parking space.
