    I was having a problem understanding how to discuss that one - what
    would you have said if asked to defend it?
    Another anecdote:  A Physics candidate in my college was asked during
    a prelim what he knew a particular diffusion equation - his response
    was that he did not have it committed to memory but knew where to find
    it if he needed it.  The committee member's response was "Good because
    you need it now"   Always good not mess around during a prelim or
    final defense.
