    Here are a couple of pictures of a nocturnal and octant I made some years ago roughly per the design in Dennis Fisher's book "Latitude Rings and Azimuth Rings - How to Build and Use 18 Traditional Navigation Tools".

    They are made from 1/8 aluminum salvaged from some electronic equipment.  The scales were made from postscript files made by a program I wrote, printed on paper and glued on.

    BTW, I don't think I've seen the nocturnal Polaris altitude adjustments shown on the last picture.
