    Re: Bubble sextants on e-bay

The shaft that the index prism rotates on is a tapered fit and freezes
up in the bearing. Remove the averging disk on the right and the plate
underneath it. You will see a screw surounded by a ring near the top,
this screw is on the end of the shaft and must be removed. Then remove
the ring and don't loose the small pin that sticks out of the end of
the shaft and goes into a matching hole in the ring.

Then disassemble the other side of the instrument and remove the
plates on the inside. You can now see the index prism shaft. Note the
spring that wraps around the shaft, this is to eliminate backlash,
note how it goes and it is difficult to get back into place.

Now you can drift out the shaft. when you reassemble it put grease on
    the tapered shaft, not oil.

If the bubble is ok you are probable done with the repair after you
    have freed the prism shaft.

just forget it. I like to repair things and thought it would be a good
    project. Any help? Thanks!
