    You should be able to use 2 "C" size batteries in your MK IXA. Of that I am 
    certain as I own three of them and they all take the same size of batteries.
    
    As for the manual, stand by on that. I just ordered one last night and 
    received my PDF this morning. Once I have read it over, I will provide a 
    short critique.
