    Alex,

    The number of visible Sun images is dependent on the amount of shading. On a homemade version using variable polarizers the dimmer images disappear with increased shading. Your original model may have gained shading properties in the built in shade or become opaque with age. Try cleaning with alcohol on all the surfaces. Use a string soaked with alcohol to clean the internal surfaces.

    On the homemade versions of the Bris I stopped using superglue because it would strangely fog up over time. The superglue would also come apart after extreme temperature changes. The substitute adhesive is clear lacquer (nail polish) which hasn't fogged or come apart yet.
