To acquire the Sun, I set the sextant to 24° and use the top of the index mirror and top of the eyepiece like the front and rear sights of a gun. When those two points are in line with my eye and the Sun is barely hidden behind the mirror, it's centered in the scope. The optimum preset angle may be different, depending on your sextant.
