Lu,
Dedicated pocket scientific calculators go a very long time on a battery. The CR2032 lithium has lasted the best for me. Two of the three calculators I use for CN are solar powered also. Shock proof yes but not waterproof. My GPS only goes for 24 hrs on a pair of AA batteries but it is waterproof. The go around for GPS power is a cigarette lighter plug in that powers off my boat deep cycle batteries. My preferred non electronic sight reduction is Pub 208 because of the compact size and ease of sight reduction. Ageton is compact and works off the DR position but for me error prone so it gets the back seat.
