This is diverging from "Instrument for solving spherical triangles " to the book mentioned in Gary's 26 April post "M. Wright, Most probable position.
A history of aerial navigation to 1941 ".
I wanted to read more about the book although it's for sale on Amazon.com. I ended up at

with a short article on the beginnings of US military air navigation that touches on many people and subjects that have come up here over the years.
A good, short, read.
