Re: Best Budget Sextant for Novice Celestial Navigators

Russian Sextant – I recently purchased a Russian SNO-T (SNO-T) micrometer Sextant.   I am very happy with the mechanics of the sextant – almost no backlash, easy to use and smooth operation.  The telescope had some separation when I got it but I got that fixed for $60 and now it is perfect.  Beware of the 12 power telescope – inverting and difficult to use.  The 4 power standard cope seems adequate.  I have also tried the 7x35 scope from a Tamaya sextant which also worked fine.

    Hope this helps.
