Peter Fogg seems to have
got it, at long last:
Of course once you've created that magnum opus, a
lasting testament to your carefully researched interest and a boon to
all who might be interested in the subject, this unappreciative world could
well amuse itself by picking your carefully constructed work to pieces. Going
through it with a fine-tooth comb and marvelling at all your mistakes. Of
such is fame.
Criticism. That’s
what furthers insights into the nature of things. Of course, that has been
known in Old Europe since at least the 18th century, a time when
down under there were only convicts and rabbits.
