    Wolfgang, I've never heard of this "coconut sextant" either. I suspect Robert was pulling our leg, ever so gently.  He was making what we call a 'joke'.  In this case, a statement that is not meant to be taken entirely seriously.  Such peculiar 'joke' phenomena can be intended to cause a strange emotion called humour to occur ...
