In trying to find the Japanese carrier fleet, the American dive bomber squadron pilots flew past the point where they had enough fuel to get back to their carriers. Many were lost when they ran out of fuel on the way back. But boy.... those guys found the Japanese carriers, and if I remember correctly totally destroyed 3 and put one of commission to limp home to Japan. Forget Midway Is. which is what the Japanese were after. Forget winning the war, which Japan essentially lost from that point on. The funny thing is how little coverage the battle received at the time. It was only afterwards that the true significance was realized. -- Joe > > 3) Third: > > Read some books about WWII and the Battle of Midway Island. > > Too bad we didn't have a GPS system then.
