There would be significant refraction. The
old air navigation tables had a table for a type of standard dome, but you would
need to measure the correction at various altitudes and it would require
mounting the sextant in a fixed position. At best you might get angles accurate
to the nearest two or three minutes or arc. Maybe you should invest in a good
winter coat and some mittens instead <g>. All kidding aside, I have a
pair of gloves with open fingers that make winter sights bearable.
