It is possble for some indoor theorists to fail to look outside prior to searching around inside their computers, and thus miss the big picture. Look out prior to searching around. Look Out Prior To Searching Around. LOPTSA.

LOPTSA.  Leo, Orion, Pegasus, Triangle, Scorpio, Arcturus.  This is the order in which the stars march around the equator, about 60° apart, and crossing your meridian every 4 hours if you are slow. Find one of these asterisms, and you know where the others must be.  Each asterism can lead, by star hopping , to its own family of stars, so covering the whole navigation sky. Standing up on your meridian, each asterism gives you a good pointer to north/south, except lonely Arcturus, which is anyway an extension of the Dipper’s handle.

Aviators sometimes call this spacial awareness.  Look Out Prior To Searching Around.

    LOPTSA
