Usually they have been jpgs set to render within the text, rather than pdf or Microsoft Word docs that have to be opened separately. They key to the lack of complaints regarding my attachments (aside from nobody being interested to read them in the first place!) may be that they were small, on the order of 10-20 kilobytes, and thus not an undue strain on dialup connections or older computers.
