You are right about James E. Morrison's Astrolabe book. I was involved in it and also watched him make custom astrolabes in his Roboth Beach workshop. I don't think any other book was a comprehensive as his.
Even a casual glance at the dozens and dozens of illustrations will attest to Jim's amazing PostScript graphics programming skills.
There are second hand copies arround, I occasionally see them on eBay.
