It so happens I'm missing the base for my Astro compass. I'm making do
with a black plastic plumbing fitting from the local hardware store, but I
would like to buy a trim aluminum base. Even if it doesn't fit in the
wooden box, it should allow the instrument to sit better on my plane table.
I suppose I should fit the base to my car, but all the land here is
divided by the roads into rectangles one mile wide (80 chains E-W) by two
miles tall (160 miles N-S) so it seems a bit pointless.
