Try Celestaire. They continue to sell them. Simply stated from memory. Set the sun's declination for the date of the observation That would be by using one of the little knobs. Then rotate the base, and sight the sun. A shadow line should point to North on the compass rose. I remember there was an upper scale and a lower scale on the turnable section, but forget their respective purpose. I do remember that it was critically important that the sun compass was housed in its own very special bracket which needs to be clamped so that it is perfectly horizontal when in flight. Take heed, my memory may be wrong. Haven't seen one in years.
