Bruce, > Whenever I do a "transfer", I do it within a basin, > so any slight spillage or splash stays in basin. I suppose it is called "quick silver" in English, and there are reasons for this:-) > Here in USA, I've been told electricians or plumbers > are supposed to confiscate old mercury switches/thermost And it is prohibited for air transportation. Mercury barometers completely disappeared from eBay and from all scientific equipment sellers about 5 years ago. Even mercury (medical) termometers disappeared. When I found this, I urgently bought one in Ukraine, while they still exist. An electronic (medical) termometer is much less accurate. Same applies to the devices measuring blood pressure, or any kind of pressure. Nevertheless I was able to buy one pound of mercury in an onlune chemical store (I was thinking of silvering mirrors with an ancient recipe, or for use in an artificial horizon, and hurried to buy while still available:-) Alex.
