    Alex,

"I suppose it is called "quick silver" in English, and there are reasons
    for this:-)"

"Quick" is an archaic word meaning "living" or "Alive", as in "the quick and the dead" and the term "quickening", meaning the first movement of a baby in its mother.

"I was thinking of silvering mirrors with an ancient recipe,
or for use in an artificial horizon, and hurried to buy while still
    available:-)"

The method requires tin or silver foil. Silver leaf is too thin. If anyone has an antique tea chest in the attic, I would appreciated a few square cm of the tin foil lining, as I too would like to try the old method described by Lecky.
