Yikes. This article has some "flaws", shall we say. I suspect a major editing error that confused "follow the arc to Arcturus" with the trick to find Polaris using the Big Dipper's pointer stars. More generally, finding south by following Canopus is about as lazy as you can get. Yet another reason to learn the Orion North Arrow though.
