Don't forget the annular eclipse of the Sun on May 20. The far east coast of the US will miss it, since the Sun will set before the eclipse begins. But about half the CONUS will have a view at least until maximum eclipse. The west coast will be able to see it all, i.e. until the Moon loses contact with the solar disk. With a sextant you won't have to rely on makeshift viewing methods. But maybe now is the time to start thinking about what to do when someone asks for a look. If it were the periscopic, no problem, but I plan to use the Astra for its higher magnification and lesser weight. And it stays in my hands. Old time navigators had a saying: "Never let another man handle your woman or your sextant." http://astro.ukho.gov.uk/eclipse/0132012/ --
