Having only a couple of 30-60-90 Degree triangles handy, I checked 30 D and 60 D.
The 30 D angle, using your approach, calculated to be 31.25 D, an error of 4%, possibly my manipulations "enhanced" this error.
A 60 degree angle came out as 60 D. I assume that the "20", by which the distance between points is multiplied, is a constant of some sort.
The whole thing is certainly interesting.
