A while ago I tried to refill a Plastimo compass like yours, probably the same model but from the 90's. To my desmay, when I unscrewed the plug screw, a pungent smell filled the house that lasted for days. Whatever you do, do it outside! Also, make sure you wear a pair of nitrile gloves and do not let the liquid drip on anything you do not want to throw away. Last but no least, when you fill it up, you'll have to seal the plug screw with some sort of resin or glue. I didn't and it was a disaster. The compass ended up in the bin...
