    Re: Analogue recording hand-bearing compass??

I’ve now got the compass cell out of this Plastimo 325 SN hand bearing compass and am ready to undo the screw to let the remaining liquid out.  However, while looking up compass liquids on a different site, I came across the warning that in compasses as late as the mid 1960 the liquid itself might be irradiated with debris from any radon paint which might have been used in the compass.  I think this is unlikely in this case because: a.  The compass looks slightly younger than the mid-1960s.  b.  I can see nothing resembling radon paint inside except possible a beta disc, and c.  The compass has its own battery system, so doesn’t need any other form of illumination.  However, If anyone feels otherwise, I’d be please to hear before I undo the screw.  Photos of the compass appear here: http://fer3.com/arc/m2.aspx/Analogue-recording-handbearing-compass-DavidPike-feb-2023-g53943 .  The outside of the bottom of the cell had remnants of an clear, odourless, oily substance, which I felt unwise to do the taste test on.  Incidentally, I saw this on eBay today.  Please tell me this vendor is dreaming.  https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/304739258104 . The price asked is only a little less than the price I paid for the yacht mine came in.
