I think Frank is making a good case for us moving to the new Google
discussion group called NavList that Frank has created. Frank has
done a good job of handling people's objections.

Here is how things stand. The biggest questions and objections are:

Q: Why move if NAV-L works?
A: Well, the NAV-L archives are gone, and 98% reliability is not
sufficient, so we need to make a change.

Q: What about advertising in a Google-based list?
A: It does not appear in emails, so if we continue to use the list
via email (as most do), there will be no ads.

Q: What if we do not want to have a Google account?
A: You do not need a Google account if you want to stay email-based.

Q: Who will make a new solution?
A: Frank Reed already has created a new, working solution that
appears better than NAV-L in most (all?) respects, other than it will
require us to use a different email address. Changing email
addresses are a fact of life. Who doesn't get at least one change a
month from a friend or family member?

PROPOSAL: let's all move to the Google group called NavList, starting
May 1st. That gives everyone a half a month -- the rest of April --
to get signed up and used to it. We can enjoy a few more meta-
discussions for April and then BAM! May 1st, 2006 comes and we're
back to full-time celestial navigation topics.

COUNTER-PROPOSALS that address these problems are welcomed, but so
far I have not heard of any solutions that are as good as Frank's,
and his is up and running.

Questions? Comments? Witty-remarks? They are all welcomed.

    Dan
