Re: American Practical Navigator, Bowditch 2017

Mediocre indeed. In 2015 the call went out seeking public input. I dutifully compiled a list of those errors and issues I had found in the Bowditch 2002 and sent them off to the listed address (twice since I updated them subsequently). I interested to see that very few of the errors and none of the suggestions have been acted on.

Interestingly in the Sailings chapter, new examples are introduced that are clearly designed assuming a calculator is used as they carry intermediate angles to 4 decimal places. However some examples are retained from Bowditch 2002 which only keep 1 decimal place and result in rounding errors. No effort seems to have been made to update these legacy examples to be consistent with with the new ones.

I am attaching the original document I sent in as public input. Original Bowditch 2002 is in black, corrections and suggestions are in blue and the action taken in Bowditch 2017 is noted in red,

    Robin Stuart
