    The American Meridian
    From: Jackson McDonald
    Date: 2018 May 23, 10:44 -0700

Today the American Meridian runs through George Washington University in Washington, DC. It was defined by astronomers at the old U.S. Naval Observatory.

The United States and other major powers accepted the Greenwich Meridian as the Prime Meridian at the Washington Conference of 1884. (See my post of a few years ago for more details about this diplomatic conference.)

Today I found myself in Washington and took these photos. According to my iPhone’s GPS, the American Meridian is situated at 77 degrees 3’ 5” west of the Greenwich Meridian. I wonder how accurate that is.
