Oh, I had quite forgotten about that interview. He phoned me and asked a few questions back in January, I think. The article includes some small but interesting details about Earhart's relationship with Putnam that were new to me. And I love the descriptions of Putnam, especially the quote from Jackie Cochrane describing his as the "dullest person I've ever been around".

I'm surprised that, in this "day and age", the article doesn't even hint at the possibility that Putnam may have been a "beard" (in this sense) for Amelia Earhart. If Earhart preferred women, then she may have done what many twentieth century women did: marry George Putnam for social and financial necessity. Actually, you can substitute "preferred aircraft" for "preferred women", and that still holds true!

By the way, Gary, I did, of course, talk up your role in the presentation of the plaque and your detailed analysis and talk at Mystic Seaport, but presumably the author of the article counted that as off-topic for this article, which after all is about Connecticut history. At least the NavList community gets a nod, and for those of you new to the group, be sure to look at the photo of the plaque in the article!
