Thank you very much for your analysis. As to the error when ariving at Africa, I don't believe the story told by Earhart. Noonan's chart work show that they hit the coast south-east of Dakar and overflew the peninsula on purpose on the way to St. Louis for what reason, I have no idea. In fact, just a glance at the shape of the coastline makes it obvious that it is impossible to mistake the coast north of Dakar for the coast south of Dakar.
