Why not to check it in > with the luggage? yes, this is what I meant but not what I wrote. checking EPIRBs is difficult because of the battery and risk of accidental operation. checking the inflatable PFDs is difficult because of the CO2 cartridge. up to a certain size is allowed but not all airline personnell are aware of that, I've had several tell me no charges are allowed at all.
