Make sure you use all the shades!

I am surprised that your sextant has only two index and two horizon shades. I have an MS-833 that has four index and three horizon shades as does my SNO-T, I thought that that was the standard configuration. But I see that yours is the standard MS-933.

With three shades in place the sun is dim and if I swing the fourth into place I can't see anything. Hopefully your two shades are dense enough for this. I expect that the index shades are but I wonder about the horizon shades.

Maybe Bill Morris has something to say about this.

About the sun's declination, remember to interpolate between the tabulated values in the Nautical Almanac. This is not necessary if using the Air Almanac.
