    Herman Zevering, you wrote:

    Not even close.

I really don't think George is defending some "banner", and I am certain that he is well aware that the standard "running fix" method of advancing LOPs is technically only an approximate solution. What he has been trying to point out is that your proposed solution is simply incorrect. Needless to say, none of this has much practical import. Advancing celestial lines of position in the usual "running fix" manner works just fine under normal circumstances.

By the way, when I first saw the subject line in this thread, I had a certain feeling of deja vu... I realized what it was today. You have inadvertently created a movie sequel. Back in 2002, there was a terrible spy movie called "Ballistic: Ecks vs. Sever". I think "Advancing Circles: Huxtable vs. Zevering" should go into immediate production! Oh and if any of you haven't heard of the original, go to rottentomatoes.com and search for it. It stands as one of the all-time worst-reviewed movies ever. It's really a lot of fun to see the reviewers climb over each other trying to heap scorn on "Ecks vs. Sever".
