Thanks for this, Gary. My electronic nav calculator includes correction for change in observer location but now I have a manual method, and am grateful to you for it. I agree that for best accuracy this effect should be accounted for, although in the case of a small sailing boat with an average speed of about 3 knots the accuracy difference under average conditions would seem to be minimal, as errors due to observations being made from this unstable platform close to the sea surface tend to swamp the much smaller error effect due to change in the boat's location.
