Rick, I would question the accuracy of a running fix based on 24 hour LOP data. This is especially true in an area where ocean currents are a factor and leeway can be. Unless you apply corrections to the RF (current, leeway) it's accuracy can degrade to that of a DR. If possible, I keep my RF's down to 6-8 hours for accuracy using good cut angles as the determining factor. In your case, a morning sun shot advanced to the noon shot on the second day would have provided better accuracy. Relating to DR, on a recent ocean training trip to Bermuda (ASA) we required the students to navigate only by celestial and DR without the use of GPS. The students found the DR to be reasonably comparable to celestial. A DR plot for your trip may have been as accurate as your long term RF. Happy Sailing!
