    Additional altitude correction for Venus
    From: Stan K

Is there something else besides parallax that is included in the Additional altitude correction for Venus?  Looking at some older  Nautical Almanacs (don't ask why), it has been noted that some of the Additional corrections for Venus (but not for Mars) appear "inverted", that is the correction increases with increasing altitude.  If they considered parallax alone, the corrections would decrease with increasing altitude.  This appears in the Almanacs for the following years that we know of, and probably more:

    1961
    1962
    1972
    1978
    1980
    1981

Some other years in this range that were examined did not show this situation, so it seems sporadic rather being confined to a certain inclusive span of years.

Does anyone know anything about this?

    Stan
