Peter,
For checking consistency along the sextant arc try Frank's online lunar calculator using a filtered Moon and one of the selected stars. Last month I did a series of observations using the Moon and Spica. The 7x35 mm scope and Tamaya Jupiter sextant was able to stay within 0.5' range throughout the arc. Be sure to call your observations and not settle for other than a perfect tangent to the limb. Using the center field is a must.
