Jared,
Thank you for the correction! Upon checking I found that I was
thinking of another Bulova watch, and extended my memory of it to include
the Accutron. The watch I had in mind was a hybrid Bulova watch which
did have tuning forks and a crystal oscillator, but was neither a Bulova
Accutron nor a Bulova quartz watch, but a Bulova "Accuquartz". The quartz
crystal operated at 2^15 hz, and the tuning forks at 341 1/3 hz, slaved to
the crystal frequency. It was introduced in 1973 and was the last
model (224) to use mechanical tuning forks. Accuracy was claimed to be +/- 3
minutes per year.
And in partial justification of my faulty memory of 30 or 40 years ago, is
it appropriate to say here, that "time flies"?
Regards,
Marvin
