Rodney Myrvaagnes said It is perfectly true that you cannot "justify" the price of a fine sextant for navigating a small craft. But, if you have the money to spend, the pleasure of using it (or just holding it) is worth something. My response is this- Rodney is entitled to his opinion, but to me it smacks somewhat of instrumental snobbery. If I could afford both, I think I would take my plastic sextant to sea, and reserve my expensive metal sextant to decorate the mantelpiece at home.
