This brings to mind one of my favorite sayings "Diplomacy is thinking twice before saying nothing" Do you suppose Carls point could have been made with humour instead of personal assualt? From a practical standpoint, it occurs to me that anyone likely to mistake the two in a given context probably shouldn't be on the water in the first place.
