Ken, perhaps it is more akin to a galvanic action
that makes the zinc stick? And some type of mild acid (hot vinegar? citric acid?
"lime away" ?) might break that bond without harming anything else? (Not knowing
what else is in there or where it can run, I'm guessing and expecting you'd know
better.)
