Many thanks indeed for this. You are most helpful and it is appreciated. I note the main worm shaft is spring loaded against a cone at the top to mitigate against 'end-float'. I am sure this is where lies the problem of apparent "backlash" when approaching the object from different directions, from up or down. There is unwanted end-float occuring I am sure.
