    The 6 x 30 scope you received should have been marked Cassens & Plath, not
    Weems & Plath. Please correct me if I'm wrong.
    
    The knob you refer to has a screw on its end which secures it to the shaft.
    Take the knob off and add one or more small washers to make up the
    difference. Re-install the knob.
    
    That should work, until KG returns with a better answer.
