    Feb 23, 2010

    Dear Sir,

In further reply to your post # [NavList 11986] Date: 22 Feb 2010 17:22 :

Thank you again for posting you own results about Jean Meeus's Aldebaran occultation example, in a post of yours to which I earlier to-day replied in post # [NavList 11991] Date: 22 Feb 2010 22:10.

Since you seem to have access to automatic software which gives you quick, easy and immediate replies, may I also respectfullly ask whether you could also rework our May, 22 Lunar occultation example by FN Captain Arago ?

You will find here after its relevant elements.

    *******

Date and time 02 Mar 1901, (with TT-UT close to - 1.1 second of time)

    Location, Brest in France

Latitude : NORTH 48 degrees 23 arcminutes 30 arcseconds, and
Greenwich Longitude : WEST 004 degrees 29 arcminutes 31.18 arcseconds, and Altitude : 0 meter, i.e. on the ellipsoid

Lunar occultation of the Star currently designated as k CNC (kappa Cancri).

    This star is listed as follows in the following star catalogs : BSC #3623 / FK5 # 1238 / SAO # 98378 / HD 78136.

    Its 2000.0 Mean elements are as follows : R.A.=09h07m44.819s *** µRA=-0.0014s/y *** Delta=N10°40'05.44" *** µDelta -0.01 "/y no parallax quoted.

With the elements hereabove, you should be fully able to uniquely identify this star.

Disappearance to uccur at @ UT 22h43m33.4s and Reapparence at @ UT 23h59m31.4s

    *******

My wish list here includes getting both Disappearance and Reapparence times in UT time scale. If you can use both software which you used for your post in [NavList 11986], I will then be able to check your k CNC apparent coordinates since at least one of the software you used yesterday prints out such data.

I found that my computed apparent position of k CNC is quite far off the one indicated by Paul Hirose. And since I reported this "discrepancy" earlier here in my post # [NavList 11971] Date: 22 Feb 2010 04:13, it has just lately come to my thoughts that the main reason for this noticeable difference between our both results might very well just be that Paul and I might not use exactly the same Precession elements.

    *******

Meanwhile, thank you again for your Kind and Courteous Attention, and

awaiting your reply I am remaining

    Most Sincerely Yours

    Antoine M. "Kermit" Couëtte
