    1887 survey

Attached Word doc contains an excerpt from a Deposited Plan based on an 1887 survey, with an insert apparently detailing how the surveyor established North.

It seems that parts of the land involved, on the present southwestern outskirts of Sydney, were original 'Land Grants' made in 1818 and 1819.  The Governor could and did, in those days, just hand out parcels of land for settlement and farming, to free settlers, soldiers and to emancipated convicts.  From such beginnings was a nation created.

The urban sprawl is only just reaching this place, and some of the 1887 allotments are still there, undivided, still semi-rural in nature.
