    1768 Almanac
    From: Dave Walden
    Date: 2007 Apr 18, 17:23 -0700
Having attachment troubles tonight.  How's this one?

    An interesting challenge from George.

Google books shows Nautical Almanac and Astronomical Ephemeris for, 1767, 1768, 1772, 73,74,75,76,77,78,79,1781,1783,1792 (stopped looking for years after Cook's death).  Jan page for 1768 attached.

    From the JPL Horizons site:

setting the observation site to Greenwich Observatory and itererating to find local apparent noon for 14 Jan 1768, one finds UTC  to be 12h 9m 31.626s.  setting the observation point to geocentric, one finds the Observer-centered ecliptic-of-date longitude and latutude of the moon to be: 229deg 46min 51.16836 and -4deg 39m 43.6482s

    1768 NA shows 229 47 33 and -4 39 54.

    Difference 42s longitude 10s latitude.

(more as a how-to than a definitive test of agreement.)

Comments?  Expecting better?  (Difference between two SOTA results, LE405 and ELP2000-82B for 14 Jan 1768 is about 4 sec longitude)

    Did I miss something?

Ahhh...imagining that irresistible "new car" smell?
